Jose Rodriguez's Kirsten Johnson - Cameraperson Extra credit

On the film Cameraperson you can tell, how much people trust Kirsten Johnson. For example, there is a clip of a girl telling Johnson what it means to be a single mother, how difficult it is, how she been going through this for 19 months. She talks about how having another child would stop her from doing what she wants to do in life, the girl being interview even spoke about what she wants to do for a career tin her future. I consider the fact that was willing to speak about all these personal subjects with Johnson to be an example of how much they trust each other. When the girl started crying you can hear Ms. Johnson comforting her from behind the camera. To the women being interview Johnson was more than just a person with a camera, she was a friend. Another example was an interview that she did on Sarajevo, Bosnia to a Muslim woman who was a former resident of Foca, Bosnia. In this interview the women spoke about what she went through while living at Partizan, in Foca. The Muslim women spoke about how soldier will come and curse the women in there. She also spoke about how her and another were rape, in front of everyone and how a journalist came and ask who was not satisfied living there and the four women who said that they were not happy there were taken away and never seem again. The fact that this woman was willing to share such tragic and shameful memories with Kirsten Johnson just shows how much she trusted Johnson, because this is not something that you just tell anyone who comes filming into your house. Overall, Kirsten Johnson, was able to build a relationship with the people she interview, but not just a family or friendly relationship but a relationship of trust, a relationship that you have with someone who you can shared anything without the fear of being judged for what have happen to you or the decisions that you have made.

The lecture with Kirsten Johnson was a very interesting lecture, it was very different from what I was expecting. Even though she puts me and other students in the spot, I still liked her presentation, she went around asking student individual questions, something which I believed help keep students engaged and curious to who she will got next. I liked when she talked about her film making process, how she mentions that she got down on the floor just to get a shot of some carrots, and there were even some children who were laughing at her. I liked this part because it shows how far she was willing to go to get the shot that she wanted. This shows how a filmmaker is always trying different positions to find the perfect angle for the shots.
