Jose Rodriguez's Blog #3 Editing Analysis

The scene begins with a close up of someone face, the background looks blurry only his angry and serious face is on focus. Next, the camera moves around and then stop on a man standing by himself, which is shown using a medium shot showing just the upper half of his body, something that show he is the leader. The camera moves around the leader and then it cuts to a close shot of his face. Next, it cuts to another character which is shown with a medium close ups and low angle. As the camera moves down to his waist, it cut to his back with a close up to his waist as he is taking off his belt. Then there are multiple cuts to different characters which are shown in different angles, something which shows that there is a lot of tension in the room. Later it shows two character who seems to be the leaders, their eyes seem to be pointing straight to the center of the room. The scene later cuts to two close ups of people hands, one taking up his ring and the other cracking his hand, which can be seem from a low angle medium close up. After a another close up of the main character the scene cuts to two people fighting. During this fight there are a lot of match actions, where it cuts from one shot to another, showing the fight in different angles. Then we see two jump cuts, where the main characters go from being in some kind of underground room to being in an office and later to a restaurant. Then we a have a final jump cut where it cuts to two guys walking in the street, but the distance between then and the camera does not change until they decided to get in the bus.

Attending Samuel Moaz master was an experience that helped me better understand what makes a good director. What interested me the most about this master class was learning about the life of a director. I consider him to have a very interesting and inspirational life, being raise in a not so wealthy family who were holocaust survivor, yet he never let anything stop him from pursuing his love for film. Ever since he was a kid, he always loves film and he constantly practice filming with his father, something which shows me that he really loves what he was doing, and he had a lot of passion for filming. The lecture with Kirsten Johnson was a very interesting lecture, it was very different from what I was expecting. Even though she puts me and other students in the spot, I still liked her presentation, she went around asking student individual questions, something which I believed help keep students engaged and curious to who she will got next. I liked when she talked about her film making process, how she mentions that she got down on the floor just to get a shot of some carrots, and there were even some children who were laughing at her. I liked this part because it shows how far she was willing to go to get the shot that she wanted. This shows how a filmmaker is always trying different positions to find the perfect angle for the shots. Jose Rodriguez's Kirsten Johnson - Cameraperson Extra credit

On the film Cameraperson you can tell, how much people trust Kirsten Johnson. For example, there is a clip of a girl telling Johnson what it means to be a single mother, how difficult it is, how she been going through this for 19 months. She talks about how having another child would stop her from doing what she wants to do in life, the girl being interview even spoke about what she wants to do for a career tin her future. I consider the fact that was willing to speak about all these personal subjects with Johnson to be an example of how much they trust each other. When the girl started crying you can hear Ms. Johnson comforting her from behind the camera. To the women being interview Johnson was more than just a person with a camera, she was a friend. Another example was an interview that she did on Sarajevo, Bosnia to a Muslim woman who was a former resident of Foca, Bosnia.
